Settings Guide

Configure your account preferences, organization settings, team members, billing, and developer tools.

ViralRef's settings are split into two main areas: Account Settings (your personal preferences) and Organization Settings (your business configuration). This guide covers both.

Account Settings

Access your account settings from Settings > Account in the sidebar.

Profile

Personal Details — Update your name, email address, and phone number. Your email is used for login and notifications. Changing your email requires verification of the new address.

Preferences — Set your display theme (light, dark, or system), timezone, and language. These settings apply only to your account and don't affect other team members.

Delete Account — Permanently delete your ViralRef account and all associated personal data. This action cannot be undone. You must transfer organization ownership before deleting your account if you're the owner.

Security

Change Password — Update your login password. You'll need to enter your current password first.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) — Add an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.) as a second factor for login. When enabled, you'll need both your password and a 6-digit code from your authenticator app to sign in.

Recovery Codes — After enabling 2FA, you'll receive recovery codes. Store these safely — they're your backup if you lose access to your authenticator app.

Active Sessions — View all devices and browsers where you're currently signed in. You can sign out any session remotely.

Connected Accounts — Link or unlink Google and Microsoft accounts for faster login. Connected accounts let you sign in with one click instead of typing your password.

Notifications

Transactional Emails — Control which system emails you receive (conversion alerts, payout notifications, etc.).

Marketing Emails — Opt in or out of product updates and tips from ViralRef.

Organization Settings

Access your organization settings from Settings > Organization in the sidebar.

General

Organization Details — Update your organization name and description. These appear on your branded referral pages.

Organization Logo — Upload your business logo. It appears on referral landing pages, the affiliate portal, and email templates.

Organization URL — Change the slug for your branded URL (e.g., yourname.viralref.com). Changing the slug will break any existing links using the old URL.

Custom Domain — Set up a custom domain (e.g., refer.yourbusiness.com) so referral pages use your own branding. This is a paid feature. See Custom Domains below for setup instructions.

Business Hours — Set your operating hours. These are displayed on referral landing pages to help referred customers know when to visit.

Social Media — Add links to your social media profiles. These appear on your referral pages.

Delete Organization — Permanently delete the organization and all its data. Requires owner permissions and cannot be undone.

Members & Invitations

Team Members — View all members of your organization. Each member has a role:

  • Owner — Full access, can delete the organization and transfer ownership
  • Admin — Full access except organization deletion and ownership transfer
  • Member — Can view data and manage their own referral activity

Invitations — Invite new team members by email. You can:

  • Set their role when inviting
  • Resend pending invitations
  • Revoke invitations before they're accepted
  • Edit the role on a pending invitation

Transfer Ownership — The current owner can transfer ownership to another admin.

Billing

Current Plan — View your subscription plan and upgrade/downgrade options. ViralRef uses seat-based pricing — you pay per team member.

Billing Email — Set the email address that receives invoices and billing notifications.

Billing Address — Update the address on your invoices.

Invoices — View and download past invoices from Stripe.

Developers

API Keys — Create and manage API keys for programmatic access to your ViralRef data. API keys are a paid feature. Each key has:

  • A name for identification
  • Configurable permissions
  • The ability to be revoked at any time

Webhooks — Set up webhook endpoints to receive real-time notifications when events happen in your organization (new conversions, affiliate signups, etc.). Each webhook has:

  • A target URL
  • Selectable event types
  • A signing secret for verification

Custom Domains

Custom domains let your referral pages use your own domain instead of yourname.viralref.com.

Setup Steps

  1. Go to Settings > Organization > General
  2. Enter your custom domain (e.g., refer.yourbusiness.com)
  3. Add the DNS records shown in the setup dialog:
    • A CNAME record pointing your domain to ViralRef's servers
  4. Click Verify once DNS has propagated (usually within a few minutes, sometimes up to 48 hours)

Troubleshooting

  • Verification failing? DNS propagation can take time. Wait 30 minutes and try again.
  • SSL errors? ViralRef automatically provisions SSL certificates for custom domains. Allow up to 10 minutes after verification.
  • Existing links still using old domain? Both your custom domain and the default yourname.viralref.com URL will work simultaneously.
